Tsarina Alexandrina
Alexandra was the German granddaughter of Queen Victoria; marrying tsar Nicholas in 1894, her German heritage made her under suspicion of the general public who was at war with Germany during WW1 (1914-1918). The Tsarina was left in charge of political affairs once Nicholas had left Petrograd as Supreme commander in chief of the Russian army. In this role, the tsarina was met with bitterness due to the general implications of her political inexperience, that she favoured German policy and was under the beck and call of Rasputin. Under Alexandra’s command elections were subject to the favouritism of Rasputin, this was heavily criticised among ministers in the regime and contributed to the unpopularity of the regime.

Born on 6 June 1872 in Darmstadt, Germany, Alexandra Unpopular at court, she turned to mystic Grigori Rasputin for counsel after her son developed haemophilia. When Nicholas left for the WWI front, Feodorovna replaced her ministers with those favoured by Rasputin. After the October Revolution in 1917, she was imprisoned and shot to death, along with her entire family, on July 17, 1918. The tsarina was German born so when Tsar Nicholas left power with her when he went to lead the army, tension was created as the Russians were currently engaging in war with the Germans.
