HOW DO I STUDY FOR THE EXAM?
While the end of year exam seems daunting, it is important to understand that it is a very manageable task if you prepare effectively.

- You know the style and format of the questions in advance.
- The questions in the exam will be strictly related to those in the Study Design and have been the topic of our discussion all year. i.e. “Was the French Revolution worth it?” …. “What was (insert hard to pronounce French or Russian name here)’s contribution to the Revolution…”
- You have time to practice, revise and rehearse.
WHERE TO START?
- Clarify a good knowledge of the dates and events. Use your notes to clarify the significance of the events.
- Add historical perspectives to France AOS1 and Russia AOS 2 - these dates and events. You should look for at least three where possible. These will give you relevant quotes to use for any possible questions.
- Clarify key concepts and ideas. Using the dates and events, examine the broader ideas. Re-read over ideas like bourgeoisie, the Three Estates, Marxism, The Petrograd Soviet, The Russian Civil War. Create study cards to go with your dates and events.
- Examine the key debates. Use Lynch and Rees to examine the key discussion points at the end of each chapter… i.e “How much of the Bolshevik success was due to Lenin” – these are good practice the ‘d’ questions in the source analysis and even the France essay response. It will also give you a good idea of the key arguments of each revolution.
- Historiography! Re-read of your notes from our historiography discussions on France, the thematic analysis’ in Malone and chapter 18. Look back over your key debates and apply historiography to each one. Try to aim for three quotes
- Practice the Practice Exams. You can download ALL past exams from VCAA. The more you do, the more potential questions you are prepared for. Practice closed and open book…
